White enjoys Iowa visit
The Hawkeye basketball coaches used the first football weekend of the season to begin the process of bringing in official visitors to Iowa City. One of those visitors this weekend was Aaron White from Strongsville, OH. The 6-foot-7 forward arrived on Thursday evening and came away with good feelings about the Hawkeye Basketball program.
"It was a good visit this weekend. I enjoyed spending time with the coaches and liked the campus. I liked being around all the players," White said.
After arriving on campus, White packed plenty of activities into his two days in Iowa City, including touring the basketball facilities, walking around the campus, and watching the Hawkeye Football team in action.
"Arrived on Thursday night and then Friday morning we had breakfast and went around the arena and showed me where the new practice facility was. Then we had lunch and I hung out with the players and showed me around campus. We watch the scrimmage on Saturday morning and then went to the football game. That evening we went to Coach McCaffery's house for dinner with the rest of the team."
White said he was hosted on his visit by Iowa point guard Cully Payne and he also spent quite a bit of time with senior big man Jarryd Cole. He also got a good sales pitch from Coach Fran McCaffery when they sat down to talk about his vision for White in the Iowa program.
"He just said how much he liked my game, how I would fit his system, and how there was playing time for me if I came there," White said.
White was also getting a sales pitch from back home in Strongsville from his high school classmate, Ray Hamilton, who is verbally committed to play football for Iowa next year. Hamilton also happens to be one of White's best friends.
"He sent me a few text messages asking me how it was going and encouraging me. I told him it was going well, so he was pretty excited."
The senior wing forward says he is still sticking to his plan of making more visits before he makes a decision before the November signing period. Next up as far as visits will be St. Bonaventure on the weekend of September 17th, followed by a trip to Boston College the next weekend.
