Conyers makes choice after early trip to Ole Miss
Robert Conyers won't visit Ole Miss officially for another two weeks.
However, the three-star offensive tackle from Miami (Braddock), Fla., decided not to wait that long to make his first trip to Oxford.
Conyers liked what he saw so much that he made his college decision Saturday night, committing to the Rebels.
"I have a good relationship with (Ole Miss offensive line) Coach (Matt) Luke and then when I got up here, it was better than he said it was," Conyers said. "This is where I want to be.
"It's a big college town. I like that. I like how new everything is and there's nothing that looks bad. It just feels like you could live here."
Conyers, a 6-foot-5, 277-pounder, said he made the decision after spending Saturday on campus and meeting with new Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze.
"He's a real guy," Conyers said of Freeze. "He has a good plan and a good direction. I like that. They want to get me in here, get me on the weight room and go from there.
"It feels like a giant gorilla off my back. They were real fired up and really happy that I made the decision now."
Conyers said he'll return to Ole Miss on Jan. 27, this time serving as much as a recruiter as he will as a recruit.
"I've already talked to a couple of guys back home," Conyers said. "I'm going to talk to them about coming here too. It's a great place."
Conyers is ranked by Rivals.com as the nation's No. 68 offensive tackle. He chose Ole Miss over Duke, Wake Forest and South Florida.
