Red Raiders offer JUCO CB
The Texas Tech coaching staff has hit the ground running on the recruiting trail, and new faces and offers are popping up every single day. One of the newest offers slung out by the Red Raiders is to Mesa (Arizona) Mesa C.C. cornerback Damarious Randall.
Randall, a onetime Arizona State commit, first heard from defensive backs coach Kevin Curtis last week. Tech graduated a whole lot of bodies in the secondary, and Coach Curtis knows that he's in need of a few good corners. He'll make a trip out to Arizona to sit down with the JUCO DB and pitch Tech's program later this week.
"I was talking to the defensive backs coach, and he was basically telling that they're in need for a corner. He said that, if I came to Texas Tech, I would be looking to play right away and stuff like that," he said. "He seemed cool over the phone, and he said that he was coming down to see me sometime this week."
Not only does Curtis see Randall as a corner, he also sees him as a possible return man for the Red Raiders.
"Basically, he said that he sees me as a guy that could actually make an impact for the team. He also said that they could have me be the kickoff returner and punt returner and stuff like that. He was like, if they could get me, it would put a good cap on their recruiting class or whatever."
Randall admittedly doesn't know a whole lot about Tech's football program, but he did pay attention to what was going down in Lubbock in the late 2000s. He also knows that the Red Raiders are in desperate need of a few players that can improve the pass coverage on the South Plains.
"I used to watch them play a few years ago whenever they had Michael Crabtree on the team whenever they had that good season. I know they play in the Big 12 conference. I seen that they were struggling a little bit covering the pass this year."
As mentioned earlier, Randall was committed to Arizona State until he decided to open things back up in early December. It looks like the Sun Devils are still in play, however, as he's scheduled a visit for this weekend. The corner visited TCU over the weekend as well, but he currently has no other trips scheduled.
Three programs are standing out to Randall at the moment, and it's very clear that he's looking to make an impact right away next fall.
"I mean, right now, I would say that my top three would be TCU, Arizona State, and Lousiville. Those have been the schools that have contacted me really heavily, and they all have a big need for my position. That's a big focus for me, the depth chart."
Randall currently holds offers from Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Arizona State, TCU, Louisville, TCU, and Arkansas among others.
