Redshirt Review: Anthony Watkins
Another member of the 2007 signing class who greyshirted, Anthony Watkins entered Oregon State in January 2008 and spent the year as a redshirt freshmen. While he impressed the coaches early, an injury sidelined him and now he and the staff hope that he can pick up where he left off.
An outstanding athlete, Watkins is a big safety who many felt could make the jump to linebacker if depth necessitated. He possesses good speed and overall athleticism and he is very physical and doesn't shy away from tackles.
"We were really disappointed, like he was, that he was injured because he made more progress from one fall to the next than I ever thought he could," said defensive coordinator Mark Banker.
Like many of the other redshirted players, Watkins has benefited from the strength and conditioning program where he has been able to add size and strength. He has done so without negatively affecting his speed or agility.
