Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers head coach Bobby Lutz has announced that red-shirt freshman Shamarr Bowden (Greensboro, N.C.) has decided to transfer out of the 49ers program. Bowden, who is undecided on where to transfer, will remain at the university throughout the spring semester while he evaluates his options.

"While I am unhappy with Shamarr's decision not to play, I respect the decision," said Lutz. "We wish him the best."
"I like the coaching staff and as for my teammates, I wish them the best of luck," Bowden said. "I still support them and hope they make the NCAA Tournament. As far as my career goes, I don't feel like I have the best basketball opportunity by staying."

Bowden has played in each of the 49ers 15 games this year after missing last season due to a fractured kneecap. He is averaging 5.7 points in 10.2 minutes played while shooting .333 from the field and .316 from three-point range (25-79). He has scored in double figures three times including a career-best 21 points in his debut against UNC Asheville in which he hit four three-pointers over a 67 second span. An A-10 preseason all-Rookie choice, Bowden was named A-10 Rookie of the Week after that 21-point debut.
