The 2009-10 championship season has begun at the Creek as two more pre-season polls were released and found there are four teams listed in soccer's NSCAA poll and there are six teams listed in the volleyball poll.

Meanwhile, at NCAA HQ, the Division I Board of Directors looked at some of the issues revolving around the recruiting environment for men's hoop prospects and made a slight amendment to the appeal process for APR violations for that sport.





Arizona State

In football, senior receiver Brandon Smith suffered a knee injury in practice and could miss the season.

In soccer, the Sun Devils received a verbal commitment from midfielder Nicole Battista.



Washington

In football, former Washington quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo joined the staff as an assistant strength coach.



Stanford

In track and field, Stanford hired former athlete Toby Stevenson as assistant coach.



WSU

In football, senior running back Chris Ivory was dismissed from the team for undisclosed team rules violations and redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Kevin Freitag will miss the season with a toe injury.



USC

In soccer, USC received a verbal commitment from forward Autumn Altamirano.



Oregon

In men's golf, sophomore Eugene Wong tied for 31st at the Canadian Amateur event.



Arizona

In soccer, the Wildcats received a verbal commitment from goalkeeper Jamie Wilkinson.



Oregon State

In football, the Beavers lost football recruit Kyrell Hudson when he decided to accept a professional baseball contract.

In soccer, Oregon State received a verbal commitment from midfielder Haley Shaw from Washington.



California

In men's soccer, the Bears were tabbed eighth in the nation in the pre-season NSCAA poll.



UCLA

In soccer, both the Bruins' men's and women's soccer teams were named in the NSCAA pre-season polls.
