Henderson close to picking Rebels
South Plains (Texas) College shooting guard Marshall Henderson said Friday he's likely committing to Ole Miss in the coming days.
The 6-foot-2 standout scored 20 points for South Plains in the Region V junior college tournament Thursday. South Plains, ranked No. 1 in the nation, plays again Saturday in the tournament semifinals.
"I'm really just trying to get a little less busy," Henderson said. "We've got our regional tournament going on right now and Ole Miss is in its conference tournament. I talked to (Ole Miss) Coach (Andy) Kennedy. We're just waiting for things to slow down a little bit."
Henderson, who is averaging 19 points per game, originally signed with Utah and played one season for the Utes before transferring to Texas Tech. When Pat Knight was dismissed as the Red Raiders' coach, Henderson transferred to South Plains.
Texas Tech has continued to pursue Henderson, but to no avail.
"It's looking like the University of Mississippi right now," Henderson said. "So that's about it."
Ole Miss already has two signees for this class, landing guard Martavious Newby and forward Anthony Cortesia in the early signing period. The Rebels have at least two scholarships available for the late signing period - three if Jelan Kendrick leaves the program, as expected.
