South Panola back names a favorite

South Panola running back Nicholas Parker has certainly seen his share of success during his high school career.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder brought home his second state championship in three years with a 56-14 win over Oak Grove in the first ever Class 6A title game in Mississippi. The win helped make amends for losing in overtime to Meridian in 2008.

"It feels great to win another state championship," Parker said. "It felt good to redeem ourselves from last year. That game last year just motivated us. Being able to go out on top and play in the snow makes it feel even better."

The Dandy Dozen selection carried 18 times for 146 yards and four touchdowns to help lead the Tigers to victory in the championship game.

Parker, nicknamed "Big", has been the workhorse in the backfield for South Panola the past two seasons and has left some big shoes to fill in Batesville.

"I really don't know who is going to take over," Parker said. "It will probably be Qyendairs Griffin. He's pretty good and is going to get the job done. He knows what he's got to do."

Parker also had the opportunity to represent the Magnolia State in the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Classic in Mobile, Ala.
