Private school star eager for competition

Cody Prewitt is well aware of the knock on him.

The newly-minted four-star athlete understands the skepticism, too. Prewitt knows that because he has played at a private school in Mississippi, there will be some who will believe he can't compete against top competition.

So Prewitt, a 6-foot-3, 200-pounder from Bay Springs (Sylva Academy), Miss., is more than a little eager to get to Ole Miss' elite camp this weekend.

"I know there are probably a lot of people who think I can't compete because I go to a private school," Prewitt said. "I've shown that I can. I'll do it again."

Prewitt is one of several top prospects who could leave Oxford this weekend with an Ole Miss offer. So far, only Southern Mississippi has offered a scholarship, though he's received heavy interest from the Rebels, Mississippi State, Auburn and Oregon, among others.

"(Ole Miss) really just wants to see me at different positions (this weekend)," Prewitt said. "I feel most comfortable on offense playing running back, but I know I probably don't have much of a future at running back. I like both wide receiver and defensive back. I'm most comfortable on offense, but I'll play anywhere."

Prewitt said he plans to camp at Mississippi State and Southern Mississippi later this summer. However, the self-admitted Ole Miss fan admitted he's hoping he can put an offer from the Rebels into the mix soon.

"Right now, it would definitely help me with my decision," Prewitt said. "There's still a lot of time between now and the signing date."
