Junior Quataye Smyre is a standout two-way performer

Junior athlete Quataye Smyre was a dynamic performer last season for South Iredell High in Statesville, N.C. The 5-foot-10, 165-pounder used his 4.49-second speed in the 40-yard dash to make plays on both sides of the ball and special teams.

Offensively, Smyre caught 36 passes for 749 yards and 12 touchdowns and ran 13 times for 129 yards and three more scores. On defense, he had 51 tackles, picked off four passes, broke up six more and forced a fumble. He averaged 11.2 yards per punt return and 29.0 yards per kickoff return.

Smyre, who said that he is being recruited by most colleges to play defensive back, is still waiting for his first offer, but he is receiving plenty of early interest.
