Robison hopes to earn Ole Miss offer Saturday

Chase Robison has had Saturday circled on his calendar for the past year.

As if the date hadn't loomed large enough, it might have added even more significance following Wednesday's unofficial visit to Ole Miss.

Robison, a 6-foot-4, 226-pound defensive end/tight end from Memphis (Christian Brothers), Tenn., will return to Oxford on Saturday for the Rebels' senior camp. After Wednesday's visit with the Rebels' coaches, Robison believes an offer could be imminent.

"It was good," Robison said. "They toured me through the facilities. I got to meet all the coaches. Coach (Houston) Nutt is cool. He seemed like a nice guy. I met with my position coach, Coach (Terry) Price. It was a good experience. I enjoyed it.

"I think if I show up at this camp _ I've had this camp marked on my calendar for a year now; I'm ready to show up and show what I can do _ I think an offer is coming. They're showing a lot of interest."

Robison has offers from North Texas, Middle Tennessee, Louisiana-Lafayette, Arkansas State and Bowling Green, but he's made no secret of his desire to play in the Southeastern Conference. If Ole Miss offers, the Rebels will be prohibitive favorites.

"I love Ole Miss. I grew up going to the Grove and stuff," Robison said. "I would definitely give Ole Miss a hard look for sure."

Robison said the Rebels' staff indicated they want to evaluate his speed on Saturday. Robison said he ran a 3.97-second 10-5-10 shuttle at North Carolina State's camp earlier this summer. Ole Miss might also look at Robison at tight end Saturday.

"I play tight end, so that would definitely be a position I could play," Robison said. "I don't know if they have that in the plans for me. Right now, I know they're recruiting me as a defensive end or an outside linebacker. I just want to play. The position doesn't bother me. I do love defensive end. Pass-rushing is my favorite thing in the world, but if they were to play me at tight end, it's not like I would freak out about it."
