Spearman awaiting word from Rebels

Ike Spearman won't be the guy waiting for the phone to ring.

The St. John (Lake Central), Ind., linebacker attended Ole Miss' one-day senior camp Saturday, and the Rebel coaches told him they would review his film and get in touch sometime Monday.

If the day drags on, Spearman plans to be the one making the call.

"They just said they are having a meeting on Monday to rank everybody," Spearman said. "I'm gonna call them to see how it went… The camp went well so we'll see."

Spearman (6-foot-2, 215 pounds) has written offers from Minnesota, Vanderbilt and Ole Miss but implied that the Golden Gophers and Rebels were wanting to see more action before a verbal occurs.

If good news comes Monday from Ole Miss, Spearman may consider making a commitment.

"They like me a lot, and they are at the top of my list," Spearman said. "If everything went well, I think I'm close to a commitment."

The Rebels' conference affiliation is intriguing to Spearman.

"It's just the big feel of football around here," Spearman said. "It's a big-time football community. It's the SEC, obviously. (There is) a lot of exposure, and going to the NFL level, you have to play with the top performers in the country."

Spearman camped at Minnesota the weekend prior to visiting Ole Miss and is fond of the Golden Gophers.

"They just want to see game film," Spearman said. "I'll show them some game film and they'll like a lot more then. I like Minnesota a lot. I've been down there three or four times. I know the coaches pretty well. I'm pretty familiar with everything there. They've got a good feel."

Spearman claims a 2.8 GPA and a 20 ACT score.

It was Spearman's second trip to Oxford, Miss. He also traveled to Ole Miss the first weekend of April.

"Everything went as well as it could have this time," Spearman said. "I guess I'll know where I'm at soon."
