Will BC commit stay on board?

Akeel Lynch committed to Boston College in July but as Signing Day approaches there's plenty of drama to report on. Lynch is keeping the door open for several other schools and he visited one of those schools this weekend.

The high three-star running back from Athol Springs (N.Y.) St. Francis took an official visit to Iowa over the weekend with a good number of other recruits that wanted to check out the Hawkeyes.

Lynch is a native of Canada, as are Faith Ekakitie, who recently committed to the Hawkeyes, and Tevaun Smith, who picked up an offer from Iowa over the weekend. Smith and Lynch are close friends and that helped both of them to enjoy their time in Iowa City.

"It was fun being up there with all those Canadian guys who are trying to achieve the same goals," Lynch told EagleAction late Monday evening.

"It was a great trip and a great atmosphere. I really like the city and the people."

It wasn't exactly what Lynch expected, but that's a good thing for the Hawkeyes.

"It was different. Iowa City is a really nice city. I didn't know it was like that. I thought it would be more of a rural town but it's really nice," he explained.

"I definitely got along with all the guys. They're hard working guys that have aspirations and goals to play in the NFL while getting a degree. Right off the bat that's something we had in common."

Darian Cooper was Lynch's host for the weekend and the New York prospect said he felt right at home with the players he met.

"They've got great coaches and they want me there. They told me they like me a lot."

While the trip went well Lynch's status with BC remains unchanged.

"I still have a soft verbal to BC," he said. "I haven't spoken to them since the trip but I think they're coming this week (for an in-home visit)."

Lynch said he doesn't have any other visits planned but he's waiting to hear back from Illinois, Penn State, North Carolina, Michigan and Wisconsin. He doesn't have a timetable for making a final decision on whether to stick with BC but thinks he will probably know his plans sometime in January.

"BC has Boston right there and a great area around it. Iowa has a good city right there at the university, too. They're different campuses and different universities," he concluded.
