Virgile breaks down commitment

Lance Virgile, who committed to Wake Forest Tuesday, Dec. 11, finished his senior season on a high note, making an interception and a sack to lead Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas (13-2) to a 41-25 win over Lincoln for the state championship crown Friday, Dec. 14.

"It was the greatest experience in my high school career," Virgile said. "I get to leave high school with a ring, which I'm very happy to do."

Virgile, who is rated as a three-star recruit and the nation's No. 55 outside linebacker by, chose Wake Forest over scholarship offers from Bowling Green, Central Florida, East Carolina, Florida International, Houston, Louisiana Lafayette, Louisville, Miami (Ohio), NC State and West Virginia. His commitment came during an in-home visit with Demon Deacon head coach Jim Grobe Tuesday, Dec. 11.

"I knew Coach Grobe before he came to my house, but I got a better feel of how he really was as a person and that's a great thing to know where I want to go the next four years of my life," Virgile said.
"One, I think the campus is a beautiful campus. Two, is the opportunity that I have it's a great opportunity. Another reason [is] the degree-value over there. The degree-value is crazy, because you can put your degree on a desk and pretty much say look I want you to beat this. This is Wake Forest."

Derrick Jackson and Ray McCartney recruited the 6-foot-3 and 220-pound Sunshine State product for Wake.

"I had a great relationship throughout this whole process with him [McCartney]," Virgile said. "One thing I hold in importance is that my recruiting coordinator recruits me, but not only that that my position coach recruits me, because there's a lot of problems in college when you go from high school to college, because if you're position coach isn't recruiting you then you got recruited to the wrong school."

Virgile added he is happy Jackson, who will be his position coach at Wake Forest, was given the okay to recruit him.
