Hometown prospect has Florida's attention
Raphael Webb wore a smile and a certain swagger. After 48 minutes of play, a 29-6 Gainesville High victory over Ocala Trinity Catholic and 38 carries, 2013 running back
"I feel good right now because of the hard work in practice," the GHS standout said. "Coach pushes us all the time. We condition hard. I think were the hardest-working school around the state of Florida."
On Thursday night, Webb ran for 159 yards and a touchdown on his abundant amount of touches. His efforts helped the Hurricanes reach 3-0 on the season.
"I came out ready to work because I knew we were low at the running back position, so I had to put the team on my back and carry us," the running back said.
While it's still early, Webb is already putting a bit of thought into his recruiting process. He'll be one of a number of prospects attending Florida's Southeastern Conference opener against Tennessee on Saturday.
"I know the coaches [at Florida] pretty good," Webb said. "They know me. I'm just ready to see if they came ready to work. See if Coach Muschamp is ready to come after Tennessee."
Although Utah is currently his only offer, Webb said he has received mail and interest from plenty of schools, including Florida, Oregon, Florida State, LSU, USF and Penn State. He would like to get to get to college games often this fall, but as of now, he only has plans for this Saturday and the USF-Miami matchup in November.
As for Florida, Webb is hoping for the best and admitted it would be hard to not commit if given a UF offer.
"They said keep progressing and getting better in the season," he said. "Keep doing your thing and we'll keep looking at you and we'll come get you."
The 5-foot-8, 181-pound back has been following the Gators for most of his life.
"Oh man, I'm a huge Florida fan," he said. "I love Florida. I support Florida all day."
