Wilkins undergoes successful surgery

TWITTER- FACEBOOK-

Cordova (Tenn.) four-star running back and Auburn commit Jordan Wilkins underwent successful surgery on Tuesday for a broken fibula and torn ligament he suffered last Friday night.

Billy Wilkins, Jordan's father, said Jordan's spirits are high after the procedure.

"Everything is great, he's very optimistic," Billy Wilkins said. "He's ready to get back to working out and get back to football. He's in very good spirits, very good spirits. He hates he can't complete his senior year, but it's one of those things you can't control."

Jordan had a screw inserted into his right ankle and the doctors repaired the torn ligaments. Jordan is in a soft cast and will keep that on until next week, will then change to a hard cast for one month, and then will move to a boot and start the rehabilitation from there. The prognosis was that Jordan could be in full swing by January after rehab.

Jordan, a member of the Rivals250, has remained solid in his commitment to Auburn throughout the process, but recently expressed concern about the struggles of Auburn's season and a decrease in communication with his recruiter, running backs coach Curtis Luper.

Wilkins' father says Jordan remains firm in his pledge.

"Everything is still where it needs to be right now. They aren't having the best season, they are working to get back to where they need to be. I had to explain that to Jordan and he's still looking at going to Auburn and nothing has changed," Billy Wilkins said.

"Jordan is the kind of kid that if people don't call him, he wonders what's going on. I had to sit him down and explain what's happening and why. He understands. We've talked to coach (Gene) Chizik, he's a class act and he said I'll still be your coach. Simple as that. There's rumors that go around, everybody wonders about recruits, people do that. But as of right now, we know what's going on and we are sticking with Auburn."
