Monday Morning Quarterback with Romaro Miller
I'm not even going to lie, I woke up Sunday morning with an Oxford version of The Hangover.
I rolled over to my wife and asked her what the final score was from the night before. I knew we had beaten them badly, and I enjoyed every second of it, but I didn't remember the final score.
She gets on her phone and pulls up pictures from after the game. It was all a blur and the funniest stuff from the celebration afterward. We were on the field three hours after the game taking pictures. I took a picture with the Golden Egg. It was such an exciting time and a great night for our university.
I'm not sure there was a moment where I knew we had it but looking back our guys had it in hand on the way out of the locker room after halftime. It was one of those games where Ole Miss was on a mission. It was a big challenge in such an important game, and our players took up for the university.
Some of the stuff we've dealt with over the past three years - TSUN, Denzel Nkemdiche's jersey being taped up in the MSU locker room - have made things even more personal and we had to take it back. It's huge because the last couple years have been tough, and Saturday showed where our program is headed. I'm so proud of our fans. I told someone after the game that we won recruiting battles not only on the field but with the environment in the stadium, as well.
It shows where the program is and is headed in the right direction. There were a couple recruits there last night looking at both teams, and I feel good about where we stand with those guys. With the other talent we're in on, talent wants to play with talent.
Now we get a bowl game, and that's a great thing for recruiting and extra development. You showcase your program for another month and get exposure, but I tell you, it's seen as more practices and more tough days by the older players. They'll appreciate it more later, spending the time with teammates. I'm glad we're going, and I'm ready to gas up the car.
I'll take anywhere, but I want to go to Nashville. I'm a nightlife guy, and I like that city. Plus, since I live in Olive Branch. I'd like to avoid Memphis. Let me tell you though, if it's Nashville, let's have better weather than 2000 when I was a senior. That was by far the coldest game I've ever played in. Please Lord don't send us the cold weather.
Bowls are a great experience for players. It's great to be together as a team. Enjoy the journey and make memories from the week. They'll remember the dinners and the private parties and the events maybe more than the game. But the game is important, not a must or anything, but it's important to end it on a good note. We haven't been in a couple years. I know we'll send a great crowd and represent the university well.
This has been a fun, great season. I agree with Neal that the first time to judge Hugh Freeze is National Signing Day, and with where we currently are in recruiting, I think that day is going to be a blowout win.
I expected three wins at the start of the season, and here we are with double that and too far away from triple that. Freeze and his staff have done a wonderful job. And then you end it with a dominant win over your rivals. It's a great time to be a Rebel, and we have special things ahead.
