DEs recruitment could be intriguing

Mandeville (Fontainebleau HS), La. defensive end prospect Scott Korte is yet to receive his first offer, but his recruitment has the makings of being very intriguing before he signs next February.
Korte, a 6-foot-3, 235 pound prospect with 4.8 speed, is the son of former Arkansas All-American Steve Korte. The elder Korte was drafted in the second round of the 1983 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints and spent his entire career with them before retiring in 1990.

Scott Korte's brother, Steven Korte, signed with LSU in 2005 and inked with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2008. There are even more connections and relationships that could come into play.
Rebel radio color analyst Pete Cordelli, a graduate assistant at Arkansas under Lou Holtz in 1978, was instrumental in recruiting Korte to Arkansas, where he was teammates with current Rebel assistant coach Kim Dameron, who just happens to recruit Louisiana for the Rebels.
The paths that didn't cross were that of Steve Korte and Houston Nutt, as Nutt had left Arkansas to transfer to Oklahoma State when Korte played for the Razorbacks.
Scott Korte made a visit to Ole Miss last weekend to check out the campus and is currently on tour of several other schools this week, including Alabama and Auburn.
"The trip to Ole Miss was totally awesome," Korte said on Tuesday. "I really liked everything about it. It was just amazing."
Korte had been scheduled to attend junior day at Arkansas late last month but said he had to cancel those plans because of family commitments.
While at Ole Miss, in addition to taking a practice, he also toured the campus.
"It was all really nice," he said. "I think the coaches stood out most of all. I really couldn't name one who stood out the most. I really liked them all. I think you can say I was totally blow away by the Ole Miss visit."
After visiting Ole Miss, Korte was in Tuscaloosa on Tuesday, where he had another positive experience.
"It (the campus) didn't stick out as much as Ole Miss," Korte said. "But I really liked it there. I liked it a lot. If I had to decide between Ole Miss and Alabama, that would be one really touch choice."
And, while there were positive experiences at Ole Miss and Alabama, his Dad's alma mater isn't exactly out of the race.
"I'd say Ole Miss and Alabama are my top schools," he said. "But Arkansas is up there too. The thing about Arkansas is it's so far away as compared to the other schools. I mean like it's not far to Ole Miss, Alabama, and Auburn – but Arkansas is a ways off."
Still, he said that wouldn't impact his final decision and also would not prevent him from visiting with the Razorbacks on an unofficial visit in the near future.
Korte, who projects as a defensive lineman at the collegiate level, didn't have his official stats from the 2008 season, but estimated he had between a total of 90 to 100 total tackles.
He said he feels his recruitment has been slowed some by a former coach who didn't assist in the recruiting process and he now feels he'll have to have solid camp showings to catch the eye of college recruiters and earn some offers.
Korte was off to Auburn on Wednesday after his visit to Alabama.
