HOT BOARD: Who's the next offensive coordinator at Ole Miss?

Ole Miss fired offensive coordinator Dan Werner on Thursday after five seasons with the Rebels. He was also at Ole Miss during the Ed Orgeron tenure.

"I am grateful to Dan for his contributions to our program," Hugh Freeze said. "His leadership and experience were invaluable in the development of our quarterbacks. These are always very difficult decisions, but at this time, I believe it is best for our program to have a fresh approach. We wish Dan and his family the very best."

The board is in order of likelihood, for lack of a better word.

Phil Longo - Sam Houston State Offensive Coordinator

Why it would work: If you believe in the premise that football is football, his system, one that has been wildly successful at the FCS level, would also work in the Southeastern Conference. His Sam Houston State team is in the FCS quarterfinals and has put up gaudy offensive numbers. He believes in simplifying things for quarterbacks.

Why it wouldn't work: The system isn't similar to Freeze's offense, and the Mike Leach Air Raid tree has not been successful in the SEC. He doesn't have major college recruiting experience and hasn't been a part of a program at the Power Five level.
