MCS 7v7: Updating the recruitment of Jashon Watkins, other Elite3 members

NASHVILLE | While they were knocked out by Florida Fire on Saturday in controversial fashion, Elite3 showed why so many around the Nashville area say their name in the same breath as the rest of the nation's best 7v7 teams.

Ole Miss has offers out to several of their players, and of that group, East Nashville Magnet WR Jashon Watkins stood out among the group.

He caught up with RebelGrove.com while in Nashville to discuss his interest in Ole Miss.

"I'm planning on heading up there this spring," Watkins said about his interest in Ole Miss. "I talk to the TE coach up there, (Maurice) Harris pretty regularly, but they're recruiting me at wide receiver. I don't see myself playing TE in college."

When asked about a timeframe on his spring visit, Watkins wasn't sure when that would take place, just that it would be before the spring game.

He's already taken a visit to Tennessee, and plans to head up to Memphis this coming weekend.

Other schools pushing for Watkins include Vanderbilt, Alabama, and Mississippi State. He doesn't have a set timetable for a decision.

Names to know

While Watkins stood out as someone holding an Ole Miss offer who made an impression, a few others really stood out who do not currently have offers from Ole Miss.

Dayron Johnson, who is listed as an ATH for the class of 2019 and plays at Springfield (Tenn.) was a mismatch all day for those trying to stop him with man-to-man coverage. He's a P5 athlete, and has heard from schools such as Missouri, Penn State, and South Carolina among others.

Class of 2020 Colquitt County (Ga.) CB NyQuann Washington just picked up his first offer hours before taking the field on Saturday, and he looked the part of a shut-down cornerback. If he's able to grow one, maybe two inches, he'll play in the SEC.

Class of 2020 Summit (Tenn.) RB/WR George Odimegwu, who doesn't yet have a profile, will soon have both a profile and D1 offers. He's got the length to be a WR, and the speed/vision to be a RB, so it will be interesting to see what he ends up playing at the next level.

2019 WR Kendrell Scurry is a national recruit, and he showed that with his performance. Scurry rarely loses on a jump ball, and he continues to add offers on a weekly basis. I don't expect him to visit Ole Miss, as he is high on several other schools currently. He was committed to Tennessee at one point, and holds offers from Louisville and Penn State, among others.
