Ole Miss commit to have happy birthday

Memphis athlete LaDerrick Vaughn may have to postpone his birthday celebration one day, but it will be well worth it.
The Ole Miss commitment is set to turn 18 on January 31. One day later he'll sign a four year scholarship to Ole Miss to play football. That's not a bad way to celebrate considering the free education and a chance to play in the SEC.

"I'm looking forward to that," Vaughn said. "It's the day after my birthday, my birthday is January 31. Signing day is the first."
Knowing what his present will be, Vaughn now just has to wait three weeks before he can open it.
Vaughn also has some good news regarding his future at Ole Miss. He made an 18 on the ACT and provided he can achieve a 2.5 GPA in his core course work, that should be good enough to gain NCAA clearance. The NCAA requires a 17 on the ACT and 2.5 GPA in 14 core courses to qualify academically.
Now that Vaughn is set on signing with Ole Miss, he can take the next step in his discussions with the Ole Miss coaching staff about his future in Oxford. Ed Orgeron and Hugh Freeze stopped by his house a few days ago to discuss specifics.
"The guys from Ole Miss came by the house, it was Coach O and Coach Freeze. They told me about what they wanted of me and things like that," Vaughn said. "I think if I work hard this spring and get up there in the summer there will be a spot on the field for me."
The Ole Miss staff members also spoke with Vaughn's parents.
"They sat down with my parents and answered all the questions that needed to be answered and things like that," Vaughn said.
Vaughn said he'll try to enroll at Ole Miss for the summer to get a head start on workouts.
