Ole Miss added a huge piece to its 2023 basketball recruiting class Thursday with the commitment of Blytheville, Ark., four-star power forward Rashaud Marshall.

The 6-foot-8 Marshall is ranked by Rivals.com as the nation's No. 98 player. He chose Ole Miss over Florida State, Kansas, Mississippi State, Missouri, Texas A&M, Tulsa and Oklahoma State.

"Marshall is all upside," Rivals.com basketball recruiting analyst Rob Cassidy said. "He's a powerful inside presence. That's the first thing you notice, what jumps off the page anyway -- just how strong he is, how athletic he is. All the things that can't be coached, he has.

"He shoots the ball a little bit. Now does he shoot the ball well right now? No, but he's getting better. He's gotten better the last few times I've seen him from the perimeter and the most important thing, at least at this point, for him is he's shown the willingness to become more skilled on the perimeter as a shooter and a ball-handler. But when he's doing what he does best, he's blocking everything close to the rim, he's changing shots on defense and he's really using his body and his athleticism to his advantage.

"Once he gets in a college program, they can get him worked out from a skills standpoint and I think he can get a lot better. You like those kinds of guys -- the guys who come with the attributes that can't be coached, and that's what he has. He's an extremely high upside guy. If it ever clicks for him from a jump shot standpoint and a ball-handling standpoint and everything else, he could become a really, really good player. We have him in the top 100 for a reason."

"Rashaud is a big, physical post player who will not be denied," said Fayetteville, Ark.-based scout and player development advisor Grady Majors, who has watched Marshall play on multiple occasions. "Although he is a big man, he has fast footwork and when he steps on the court there’s no doubt who the best player is. The SEC has been shifting recently to a more mobile big man style of play like several other conferences and that’s exactly what Ole Miss has secured. His high school team (Blytheville Chickasaws) are one of the favorites to win the 4A State Championship this year and he will be the one to lead them there."
