Recent history: Rebs carry three-game win streak against Aggies

Ole Miss has won three in a row in the Texas A&M series, twice beating the Aggies in College Station and also taking the in-between game in Oxford in 2014. Since A&M joined the SEC prior to the 2012 football season, the series is at 3-2, as Johnny Manziel carried the Aggies to dramatic wins in 2012 and 2013.

With another meeting set for 6 p.m. Saturday at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, here's a look back at the recent history between the two teams.

2016: OLE MISS 29, TEXAS A&M 28

It was Shea Patterson's coming-out party, as Manziel-like highlights turned into a second half comeback in the freshman's first start. With the redshirt removed following Chad Kelly's season-ending knee injury, Patterson threw for 338 yards and two touchdowns, setting up Gary Wunderlich for a 39-yard field goal with 37 seconds left to stun the eight-ranked Aggies.

Ole Miss trailed 21-6 entering the fourth quarter before Patterson found Van Jefferson and Damore'ea Stringfellow on touchdowns throws, and Akeem Judd ran one in from 21 yards out.

Ole Miss outgained A&M 490 to 342 yards and piled up 30 first downs to just 13 by the Aggies. For a week, the redshirt debate cooled, but blowout losses to Vanderbilt and Mississippi State to prevent bowl eligibility brought it back into focus.

2015: OLE MISS 23, TEXAS A&M 3

Texas A&M provided little resistance during Ole Miss' march to a second straight access bowl. In a matchup of ranked teams, No. 24 Ole Miss took advantage of No. 15 A&M's quarterback issues in the three-touchdown victory.

Kyle Allen played hurt and was completely ineffective, throwing 34 passes but competing only 12 for 88 yards and an interception.

Chad Kelly and Evan Engram connected for an early touchdown, and Wunderlich added three first half field goals, giving Ole Miss a 16-3 lead at the break. Laquon Treadwell caught five passes for 102 yards and a second-half score to ice the game. Jaylen Walton also had 22 carries for 97 yards.

The win started a streak of five wins in six weeks to end the season for Ole Miss, including the Sugar Bowl. The one loss, however, came two weeks after A&M when the miracle Arkansas finish cost the Rebels an SEC West title.

2014: OLE MISS 35, TEXAS A&M 20

It was the week after the win against Alabama, and all week Ole Miss fielded questions about handling the success following such an emotional weekend in Oxford. The Rebels passed with exemplary marks, scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter on Bo Wallace runs and leading 21-0 at halftime.

The win moved the Rebels to 6-0 on the season, and they would beat Tennessee the following week before losing at LSU. Ole Miss No. 3 nationally entering College Station and caused three turnovers in a win that wasn't as close as the final score.

Laremy Tunsil dominated Myles Garrett, and a good many of the 110,000 in attendance left prior to the final minutes. The Rebels scored two defensive touchdowns -- a Cody Prewitt interception return and a Keith Lewis fumble return.

2013: TEXAS A&M 41, OLE MISS 38

In a crazy fourth quarter that saw 41 combined points, Texas A&M scored in the final five minutes to tie the game and then Josh Lambo kicked a field goal as time expired to help the Aggies beat the Rebels, 41-38 in Oxford.

Wallace hit Walton on a 50-yard scoring play to put the Rebels up a touchdown with 6:05 to go, but Manziel countered on the next possession, tying it with a 6-yard run. Manziel was 31-of-39 for 346 in the game and also ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns.

Wallace threw for 301 yards and three scores and Barry Brunetti added two touchdown passes. Treadwell caught two, and Walton, Engram and Vince Sanders each grabbed one.

On the possession late to tie it, Manzel faced fourth and seven from the Ole Miss 45. The Rebels covered well but couldn't contain him, as he rushed for 13 yards and a first down. It was Ole Miss third straight loss after road defeats to Alabama and Auburn, but the Rebels then won four in a row including wins against LSU and Arkansas.

2012: TEXAS A&M 30, OLE MISS 27

This was Ole Miss' 16-straight SEC loss and potentially the worst eruption ever for the RebelGrove.com forums following the game. Never has the delete button been used more than that night.

The Rebels led by 10 points midway through the fourth quarter and had Texas A&M pinned on the one-yard line following a play that some thought should have been a safety. Manziel found Mike Evans for a 32-yard pass just over the reach of Senquez Golson on third down. The Aggies would score soon and then get it back for the winning drive after one of Hugh Freeze's worst moments of year one.

On fourth and one from its own 39 with 3:02 left and a four-point lead, Ole Miss went for it out of the shotgun, and Jeff Scott was stood up at the line of scrimmage, giving Manziel a short field that turned into the go-ahead score four plays later.

The Rebels forced six turnovers, but Manziel was brilliant in the fourth quarter.

Ole Miss broke the long conference losing streak the next week with a 41-20 win against Auburn and then beat Arkansas in Little Rock the following game.
