Source: Ole Miss hires Matt Lubick as wide receivers coach

Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze continued filling his staff on Thursday, adding Matt Lubick as wide receivers coach, sources tell RebelGrove.com.

Lubick, who was the Rebels' wide receivers coach in 2005 and 2006, spent 2016 as Oregon's offensive coordinator and guided the Ducks' passing game and wide receivers from 2013-2015.

Oregon fired head coach Mark Helfrich following the 2016 season. Ole Miss wide receivers coach Grant Heard left for a similar position at Indiana.

Lubick, who was named the 2012 Football Scoop Wide Receivers Coach of the Year in 2012 while at Duke, also spent three years at Arizona State between Ole Miss stints. He was also a finalist for the AFCA assistant coach of the year award in 2012.

Lubick has a good reputation as a recruiter, and he's most known for leading Dexter McCluster to Ole Miss during his first tenure in Oxford.

Oregon was No. 19 nationally in total offense last season. The Ducks threw for 268 yards per game and rushed for 226.4 yards per game.

The hire comes a day after Freeze tabbed former LSU assistant Bradley Dale Peveto as linebackers coach. Ole Miss also named Phil Longo and Wesley McGriff as offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator, respectively, and North Carolina assistant Tray Scott is the favorite for the defensive line coach opening.
