Ole Miss has offered Texas quarterback Zach Lee, a pro-style quarterback, and the other signal caller known to possess a Rebel offer is Pine Bluff, Ark. dual-threat quarterback Claude Johnson.
Johnson is a 6-foot, 190 pound speedster (4.5 speed), who threw for 2,800 yards last fall as a junior with 34 touchdown passes against just three interceptions.
He's been on Ole Miss' offer list for some time, but he's not in any hurry to make a decision anytime soon.
"I'm still just kind of waiting to see who offers," he said on Friday. "I really haven't talked to my coaches or my parents and don't really know when I'm going to commit. It will probably be later in the year, at least after my senior season starts."
Johnson, who has the offer from Ole Miss and recently picked up an offer from Louisiana-Monroe, said he's also hearing from Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Virginia, and Duke.
While it's been reported that he's also being recruited by Arkansas, Johnson said he really hasn't heard much lately from the Razorbacks.
Johnson said Ole Miss coaches haven't been around yet during his spring practice, which is ongoing, but that he has previously met the coaches involved in his recruitment and that the Rebel coaches have seen him practice as a junior.
"I followed coach (Houston) Nutt when he was at Arkansas and it would be a honor to get to play for him," Johnson said. "I feel he's really a good coach."
While Johnson called himself open, he says it is very possible that he could end up in Oxford.
"I definitely could see myself playing there," he said. "I really like what coach Nutt has done down there."
Johnson is yet to finalize a summer camp schedule and said where he goes will depend on several factors, including distance and his ability to pay his own way. An exception is Ole Miss.
"Ole Miss is close enough that there's no problem getting down there," he said.
He said it's likely he'll show up on July 25 for the Rebels' one-day senior camp.
And, while the Rebels appear in good shape, Johnson is not ready to make his decision.
"I'm just not ready to make a decision," he said. "I'm just waiting and looking for a school where I'll fit in."
