THE NEWS: East Mississippi Community College defensive end Tim Bonner announced on Twitter Saturday night that he has committed to Ole Miss.

WHO IS HE?

Bonner is a 6-foot-4, 220-pounder from Demopolis, Ala., who considered Ole Miss heavily before signing with Louisville out of high school in February 2015. Bonner was an outside linebacker in the Cardinals' system, but he redshirted at Louisville before leaving the program in October without having played a down. Bonner had 84 tackles and nine quarterback sacks at Demopolis as a senior. He had multiple Division I offers. He is expected to enroll at Ole Miss in late May. He'll have three years of eligibility remaining.

WHAT'S IT MEAN?

Bonner will play defensive end at Ole Miss.

Ole Miss loses senior defensive ends Fadol Brown and John Youngblood after the 2016 season and All-Southeastern Conference star Marquis Haynes is very much on NFL radars and could leave for the league after his junior season this fall. Freshman Charles Wiley, who had an impressive spring after reporting to school in January, was arrested on a domestic violence charge earlier this summer and has an Aug. 24 court date. In other words, there is an immediate need at the position in 2017.

Ole Miss has three other defensive end commitments in the 2017 class. Bryan Jones has remained firm to the Rebels, but it's no secret LSU remains a threat for the Louisiana product. Bonner's teammate at EMCC, Rasool Clemons, is expected to help Ole Miss immediately, as is Jones (Miss.) Community College standout Markel Winters.

Ole Miss now has five junior college commitments in its 2017 class, one the Rebels are accumulating under the cloud of an NCAA investigation.
