Houston Roth 'questionable' for weekend after non-throwing shoulder injury

OXFORD | Ole Miss junior Houston Roth suffered an injury to his non-throwing shoulder.

Roth, a top bullpen arm and likely midweek starter to begin the season, tripped and fell during pitchers’ fielding practice on Tuesday. Tests revealed an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder.

The injury isn’t considered serious or anything that will bring future risk, an Ole Miss official told RebelGrove.com on Wednesday. He’s considered questionable for the weekend against Wright State, head coach Mike Bianco said. His availability, per Ole Miss, is a matter of pain tolerance.

"He'll probably be the first guy out of the bullpen on Friday and will probably log a couple of innings in that game and start on Tuesday," Bianco said of Roth prior to the injury on Tuesday.

Roth had a 4.44 ERA in 52.2 innings last season. During three instrasquad outings this preseason, Roth allowed three earned runs over 10 innings with 13 strikeouts and four walks.

The Rebels and Raiders start the season at 4 p.m. Friday at Swayze Field.
