1. Over the last few weeks, I’ve gotten lots of emails and private messages from people asking me, “What would you do?”
Sometimes, I’m asked, “Who do you want?”
I never answer those questions. Why?
Well, what I would do is immaterial. I’m just a sportswriter and a guy who hosts some podcasts. I’ve never run a football program nor have I ever hired a coach. Frankly, my opinion doesn’t matter, nor should it.
Who do I want? That’s an easy question to answer. It doesn’t matter. Back in the early spring of 2008, before I even started this gig, I came up to Oxford to cover a basketball game for the Mobile Press-Register. I arranged a sit-down to say hello to Houston Nutt. Within minutes, I knew I had problems. Nutt had made up his mind that I was bad news, the enemy, someone not to be trusted. Maybe he made that decision on his own. More likely, others poisoned the well for their own self-interests. I don’t care.
