Mississippi State DB Jarrian Jones to transfer to Ole Miss

As if the offseason couldn’t get any weirder, it did.

Just now.

Mississippi State defensive back and former anti-Ole Miss tweet star Jarrian Jones has announced via Twitter that he will be transferring to, you guessed it, Ole Miss. The Brandon, Miss., native played in 11 games last year as a true freshman, starting one game and recording 12 tackles, two pass break-ups and one fumble recovery..

The former four-star athlete was originally committed to Oklahoma before flipping and signing with Mississippi State. Jones was an Under Armour All-American as well as an Alabama-Mississippi All-Star. He finished his last two years at Northwest Rankin with 70 tackles and seven interceptions as well as 1,772 yards receiving and 26 touchdowns.

WHAT HAPPENED?: The newest member of the Ole Miss Rebels most likely looked to transfer after the staff turnover in Starkville and his position coach, Terrell Buckley, also leFT Oktibbeha County for Ole Miss. Jones was close with Joe Moorhead and was an instrumental part of the Bulldogs’ 2019 signing class, helping them reel in the likes of Charles Cross, Nathan Pickering and De’Monte Russell.

IMPACT: As mentioned above, Buckley had to have played a huge part in Jones’ decision to transfer to Ole Miss. That, and he is close with several of his fellow 2019 classmates who chose to sign with the Rebels.

Jones brings a ton of athleticism and playmaking ability to the Rebels’ secondary that is desperately in need of it. His 6-foot, 190-pound frame will be a welcomed addition to Buckley’s room and I fully expect him to be a factor in 2021, assuming he will not receive a waiver to play this season.

He has three years of eligibility remaining.
