OXFORD | Jason PellerinClick [rl]Here to view this Link. knew what Ole Miss and Oxford were about prior to his official visit this weekend, but those positives strengthened during his two days on campus.
The New Iberia (Catholic), Louisiana, dual-threat quarterback committed to Ole Miss in June and has been extremely solid except for a few thoughts when LSU inquired about his status. He's the lone high school quarterback in the Rebels class.
"It was great to again see how Oxford is and the fans out here, they are supportive and crazy," Pellerin said. "They are all telling me they can't wait until I get here and for me to enjoy it. I was spending time with the players and seeing how they act and everything. I feel like it's a good fit for me."
The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder guided his high school team to the state finals before falling to Calvary Academy and five-star 2016 quarterback Shea Patterson. Pellerin brought his parents, brother and nephew with him on the trip.
"I was just coming here to enjoy and be back out here," Pellerin said. "I didn't have any thing in goal or in mind or anything. i just wanted to see how the team was together, how they acted - receivers, linemen, one big family.
"A lot of schools say that about their school and they all want to get that message across, but you can definitely see that family atmosphere. They support you and clown around and everything. It was a great time."
Pellerin has seven Division I offers including Power 5 programs Northwestern and Nebraska. With his future decided, Pellerin focused on recruiting Rivals100 wide receiver DaMarkus Lodge, who was also in Oxford on an official visit. Lodge visited Texas and Texas A&M last week.
"I talked to Lodge a little bit," Pellerin said. "I just told him it would be nice to have another receiver to go up and get the ball because we need one. He's going to make a good choice, and I think he's leaning on us.
"Coming off this weekend they definitely should feel good about Ole Miss. I know they had a good time. It's a little small town over here, but it feels like a big place. I love it over here."
Pellerin's player host was rising senior receiver Cody Core.
"Me and Cody, he already feels like a brother to me," Pellerin said. "I see how he acts, and he's a good guy. I feel the same way about everybody on this team. Coach Freeze came in and did something great to this school, and I want to be a part of it. All the guys on the team know what a brotherhood is and what a family is. I'm glad to be a part of that."
