Tuesday Ole Miss practice observations

Ole Miss allowed practice access to the media on Tuesday. Below RebelGrove.com gives some observations from that opportunity. Also below is a video of practice highlights.

Jeffrey Wright

Today’s practice looked very much like what one would expect for the ninth day of camp, especially considering that the team has another practice tonight. The energy wasn’t exactly radiating as one might expect.

Hugh Freeze mentioned in his comments to the media before practice began that the offense won the first scrimmage of camp that occurred yesterday. Having seen only two practices, I’m not the least bit surprised.

Chad Kelly is a really good football player, and he will give most defenses problems this season should Ole Miss sure up the protection. Kelly and the Rebels set all sorts of offensive school records last season, and while I hate saying that a record-setting unit will be surpassed, I really think that this offense has a chance to be special if they play to their strengths, which in my opinion are Kelly and the receiving corps.

Speaking of protection, Rod Taylor continues to work as the No. 1 left tackle, a fact that I beginning to accept. I still maintain my stance that I will be very surprised if Taylor is the best option at that position in 2016 as he is prone to mental mistakes that are magnified more at tackle than any other spot on the line.
