MORE: Breeland Speaks out of Nkemdiche shadow
OXFORD | Ole Miss will make history yet again on September 5th at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium albeit through no fault of its own.
When the Rebels line up to take on No. 4 Florida State on Labor Day night, they will face the highest-ranked, season opening opponent ever for the Rebels, besting the previous-highest-ranked opponent of No. 6 Auburn in 1995.
“I’ve never been on a staff that faced a September quite like what we’re facing,” Freeze said on Monday. “It’s not hard to motivate our kids. They understand what’s in front of them, so that’s a positive.”
Because the Seminoles present such a challenge, defensive coordinator Dave Wommack has noticed a different tone during the offseason.
“Without a doubt (camp has take on a different tone),” Wommack said. “I saw it a couple of years ago with (the) Boise (State season opener). According to Paul (Jackson), with the amount of time that these guys have put in on film this summer, absolutely (camp has a different tone because of the season opening opponent). There’s an edge to them.”
