For Cam White, the decision had been made long ago in terms of where he 'wanted' to play at the next level.
Three things held him back- timing, uncertainty in terms of the coaching staff, and the pending NCAA sanctions.
On Friday afternoon, the wait was over; White announced his commitment to Ole Miss.
White chose Ole Miss over an early offer from Alabama, as well as Southern Miss, and Marshall. He is rated as the number 19 player in the state of Mississippi for the class of 2018.
White caught up with RebelGrove.com earlier in the week to discuss his decision.
"I'm ready to get on the field as a Rebel and help this team ball out," White said about the decision. "You've got such a hardworking head coach and football staff in place that pushes their student-athletes to the max and gets them to play to their maximum potential, who wouldn't want to play for them?"
White went in depth on his experience the first time he ever visited Ole Miss.
"I'm a big fan to the phrase 'no place like home' and with Ole Miss I immediately felt that the moment I stepped on campus," he said as he told the story. "They are built like a family there, and that's what I was looking for. They play as a unity, and feed off each other's performances."
As for when White plans on signing with the Rebels, there's a special reason he's decided to wait until February.
"My uncle, who is in the Army and currently in Afghanistan, won't be back in town until February. He's someone that's played such a huge factor in my life, and I want him to be by my side as I sign to play football in the SEC West.
White will play safety going forward for Ole Miss, and could possibly line up with the other Kam White in the defensive backfield as time goes on.
