HORN LAKE | The weather was not the best, for Mississippi standards, but the talent on the field was one of the best RebelGrove has seen on one field all season. Coming into the game, Horn Lake had one loss, while Tupelo came into the game unbeaten.

Tupelo was able to get on the board early with a safety and a field goal, and from there, the defense did the rest. The Golden Wave remain undefeated, defeating the Eagles of Horn Lake 25-7.

TWO THINGS THAT STOOD OUT

Horn Lake QB Raydar Jones' health was a big factor on Friday night

Jones, a three-star ATH in the class of 2019, has been dealing with a high ankle sprain the last several weeks. All week he had been getting treatment to try to get to as close to 100 percent as possible, but to no avail. Horn Lake's offense quickly became fairly predictable, as Jones was not a dangerous option in the running game like he had been in the past.

Jones needs to get healthy if Horn Lake wants to make a deep playoff run, but I am not sure if they can afford to rest him next week against Southaven

The state of Mississippi takes their weather very seriously

Earlier in the week, when it became clear that it was going to be in the 40's and rainy, several schools moved up their games to play on Thursday night before the 'cold' front came in. While it is undeniable that the weather played a factor in the game (and the natural grass field) , it stopped raining before kickoff. The weather not only took its toll on the pace of the game, but also to the officials. There were over a dozen penalties called, and the weather led to quite a few missed calls, on both sides. Good thing next Friday's high is currently 74.

FIVE PLAYERS WHO STOOD OUT

Jordan Jernigan (2019 Tupelo WR)

In a game in which both teams had very few opportunities for big plays, Jernigan made the most of his chances when given the opportunity. Jernigan added another touchdown to his already impressive junior season, and answered each time his name was called. Jernigan visited Ole Miss last weekend, and were the game not at 11 am, he'd likely be back there again this week.

NaKobe Dean (2019 Horn Lake LB)

Dean is one of the best players I have ever seen in all my years of covering high school football. I could count on one hand the amount of plays that he was not either in on the tackle, or around the ball. Seeing him play QB in the wildcat was just another notch in his belt. Don't be surprised when Dean becomes a five-star in the offseason, as Alabama, Ole Miss, LSU, and Georgia have all offered.

Peter Gray (2018 Tupelo DE/LB)

I will say one thing about Peter Gray: Each time I see him, he seems to get better. Tupelo is starting to play him as a DE more as the season progresses, which is the position he projects to play at the next level. Gray contained the Horn Lake run game well, and was also seen in coverage a handful of times. He remains committed to UTSA, and visited there last weekend.

Tony Washington (2019 Horn Lake ATH)

Washington was impressive when I saw this team play Shannon earlier in the season, but on Friday night he took it to the next level. Washington is on both return teams, as well as playing defensive back for the Eagles on defense. His recruitment is in the beginning stages, but if he can show the continued development he has this season, and maintain the explosiveness he showed, the offers will come. He visited Ole Miss last weekend.

Tay Standifer (2019 Tupelo S)

I can't decide if I like Standifer more at safety or linebacker. Standifer will gladly stop the run, and made several plays on Friday night. As Tupelo makes it deep into the 6A playoffs this season, look for Standifer's stock to rise. He scored his first career touchdown last night on a pick six, and also visited Ole Miss last weekend for the LSU game.
