Ole Miss still has plenty of work to do to round out its 2019 signing class.

The 2020 class, however, is off to a superb start.

Shon Robinson, the top low-post target for Ole Miss' 2020 class, committed to the Rebels Monday, choosing Kermit Davis' program over Arizona, Arizona State, Michigan, Southern Cal, Texas Tech, Kansas State, Gonzaga, Nevada, Iowa, Rutgers and Syracuse.

"They’re different," Robinson said, referring to the Rebels. "That’s it. They’re different — in every way."

Robinson has roots in both Chicago and Arizona. He's playing AAU basketball this summer for the Oakland (Calif.) Soldiers in the Nike EYBL. Robinson is currently ranked as a three-star and as the No. 3 prospect in Arizona in the 2020 class. However, a recent growth spurt and a strong junior season at Eduprize (Ariz.) has Robinson likely in line for a strong ratings bump.

"Shon is a kid with a great personality and a great smile," Robinson's high school coach, Phil Lowe said, "He's a real people person. On the court, he's 6-foot-11, 205 pounds, and what makes him unique from guys his size is he can really shoot the ball. He's athletic as well. What makes him intriguing is how agile he is, He can guard from the 1 to the 5."

Lowe said there are some natural comparisons to Brandon Ingram and Kevin Durant, but he said Robinson "hasn't come into his own yet. When he came out here two years ago, he was a blank sheet of paper. He has a very high IQ and he can pass the ball as well. He's made tremendous strides. You haven't seen the best of him. He just turned 17 in November."

Lowe said Ole Miss has been recruiting Robinson "from Day One."

"Levi Watkins has done a great job of recruiting him," Lowe said, referring to the Ole Miss assistant coach.

Robinson visited Ole Miss in October, and the Rebels emerged as the clear favorite after that trip to Oxford.

Robinson was at dinner with his family when RebelGrove, com reached him this evening for comment. We'll have more in the coming days.
